Mad River Community Hospital Home Health Services currently occupies a space of 3627 square feet, however, the new addition will bring the Home Health building up to a spacious 5691 square feet. In support of the addition, a ground breaking ceremony is planned and will highlight brief comments by guest speakers including Mr. Tom Ayotte, Director of Ancillary Services and Safety, Ms. Brenda Goosby, Director of Home Health Services, Ms. Charmaine Mosher-Carbiener, Nurse Executive, Mr. Doug Shaw, CEO of the hospital and Mr. Bill Thompson, Owner of the building. Phase I of the project has already begun and completion is expected by the summer of 2008. As a licensed home health agency, Mad River Community Hospital Home Health Services is fully staffed with an entire interdisciplinary team including nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists, as well as home health aides and medical social workers. Quoting Ms. Brenda A. Goosby, RN BSN and Director of Mad River Community Hospital Home Health Services: “The new addition will significantly improve upon our ability to reach out further into our community, allowing us to grow our business and respond to the continued flow of referrals. We are all very excited about the added space and look forward to expanding our services.”Through a staff of 55 individuals, Home Health makes about 1800-2000 visits each month throughout the community, making home visits in Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, Blue Lake, Trinidad, and Orick. Bringing critical skilled care into the homes of some of the most fragile homebound patients, the agency, which boasts two nationally certified wound experts, also specializes in the care of patients with difficult-to-heal wounds. “We are very proud of the strong clinical expertise we have on our team,” stated Ms. Goosby, “our outstanding patient satisfaction scores give us the confidence to continue to grow even stronger.” As aging baby boomers and aging seniors in the 80+ categories have grown in numbers, it has become very apparent that the need and desire for Home Health services has increased. “We are so lucky to have a landlord who believes in our services,” stated Ms. Goosby. “About 18 months ago, Bill Thompson, our building owner, approached us about our desire to stay in this location and to consider expanding on our building. Needless to say, it works well for us to be in the same neighborhood as our hospital, so when the offer to add more space was extended, we jumped at the idea. Now our expansion will allow us to add the additional staff we need to respond to the greater need.”
